Nowadays you have to get creative with advertising when reaching out to more people and showcasing your product. Social media is filled with companies and individuals trying to get more likes and followers to their pages. Now as these algorithms are changing a lot more often it is unpredictable to know what is going to happen to your reach.
It has become so dense in some social media channels that it can become too expensive for startups and small companies to spend so much of their budget on advertising with little effect. Unless you hire someone to do this full-time, it might not be that easy. As competition rises, so do the prices to buy ad spaces. Creative advertising might be the way to go.
Of course, there are lots of tutorials and guides on how to properly advertise your product through many different sources. If you are just starting out, there is usually not so much cash to test out and see if you can grab someone and show the product. It is fierce, you will need a lot of time, effort, and money. There are of course some basic things You can do to reach the target audience for free including, Search Engine Optimization, producing high-quality sharable content, telling your friends about it, YouTube videos, Tiktok, on and on… We might be forgeting something.
Now that we are slowly going back into the streets and attending events a rising opportunity emerges. I noticed that people are even more talkative when I am doing my daily shopping – discussing which avocados are ripe, what are strategies for picking them, etc. You get the idea.
We are wearing branded or just painted t-shirts, hats, shoes, jackets, etc. We pay premium for that and we are happy about it. It is free advertisement for nike, adidas and likes, and good quality for us. Social status is a bonus.
How about instead of advertising other brands and paying for them (yes, we are paying for their advertisements when we buy these products – win-win for them), you start wearing your own? Printing website domains, texts, 3D pictures of products, whole experiences on your body. Not only this will help your product get noticed, but it can also be a great conversation starter. If you are at the place where most people are your target audience it is very possible someone might ask what is that on your back? Now is your pitch time!
Ordering The Creative Advertising Designs From Custom Printing Service
By now you could get a hint of where this is going. I am going to try to advertise this website as much as possible in actual real life. It might work, it might not. With a limited budget, this is the way to go. Worst case scenario I have cool new clothing!
For printing the products I used Printful custom printing service. I chose this company because it was started by my fellow citizens from Latvia, Davis Siksnans, and Lauris Liberts in 2013. It has become one of the fastest-growing startups in the USA and more countries globally. Basically, there are 2 ways you can use this service:
- Dropshipping: add it to your e-commerce store and automatize all of the orders by outsourcing the manufacturing.
- Customize and order designs for yourself directly from the Printful website or app.
I wanted to take you on this small journey of designing and ordering this type of advertisement and later sharing the results of how well this works.
Ordering From Printful
There are a lot of products to choose from, so there are many ways to advertise your brand.
For this “campaign” I will be going for two types of clothing – a hat and a t-shirt.
This is the type of t-shirt I will be going for. It is premium quality and available for delivery with the color that I wish to have.
The next step is to customize the front of the t-shirt. I will be adding a logo with a small link below it that leads to startupdose.com.
On the back, this was the widest that I could go with the logo/domain. It should be enough, I want to bring attention to it, also not being too much in your face (just enough).
The hat that I chose is something I would wear almost every day so it has to look good, feel comfortable, and natural. A similar color was chosen for the t-shirt, just to match the styles. Pro Tip: If you wish to use the hat as an advertisement, make sure you are shorter than anybody else. 🤨 Hand these out to short friends.
Jokes aside, here is how it looks like when designed:
These colors and shapes are sewed into the hat, so it will last a very long time. If properly designed you can get a more uplifted 3D print so it stands out even more. (maybe also lasts longer). I tried to apply it, but unfortunately, it was not possible for this design, see why in the second to next image.
All of this cost me €49.46, quite a lot less than a very small Facebook campaign! Plus, I get an extra high-quality t-shirt and a hat as a bonus!
Now back to the hat, make sure that you have the right dimensions for the logo in order to have that raised 3D print.
Basically, it said that lines are less than 0.2 or more than 0.5 thick so they cannot be sewed his way. This is fine, I had to approve the change of not having the 3D puff and I was swiftly refunded the money into my Printful wallet.
Quality And Looks of The Products
After just 5 days of waiting the designs arrived. Worth mentioning that the printing facility is in my city. So the deliveries will very much vary between cities and countries.
Neatly packed together with a receipt.
Here is how front print of the t-shirt looks like.
And here is the back print. The colors of the material do not match exactly, one is lighter than the other. There are only specified varieties of colors for each product to pick from, so I had to choose the closest matching ones.
The quality is quite good for the t-shirt, feels nice. It could be a bit wider, so it fits better on shoulders. Keep that in mind when ordering this one. It might be that it is better to order one size bigger. Long t-shirts are trending, so they could look even more suitable that way. The quality of the print is good, but I can already tell that it should not be washed too often. So I will be wearing it only when I feel that it might catch someone’s attention.
The print on the hat is very nice. The design for the logo was a bit optimized by Prinful employees and it looks even better than what I imagined. The quality itself is quite medium, and I was not aiming for a super high-quality hat, to be honest, maybe I should have. It is quite rough and a bit big. One size fit’s all, so it will rarely fit you perfectly as heads come in all different shapes and sizes. Here is closer look at the hat:
When wearing the hat I already noticed some people trying to read what it says. I hope it is clear enough with rockets 🚀 and needles 💉 in the logo.
Update Coming Soon*
Now that I have the designs I will start attending more events and the goal is to be noticed by event photographers and included in their pictures. Not only that, I finally will have a good reason to visit clubs, pubs, social events and maybe sports competitions such as running and cycling 🤔.
